Welcome to all the new class members for 2013. Our formal classes start on 9th of February at 9.00am. We have 8 new students this year which is a big change for our little group.
We have some young ones - 8 years - with the majority being 10 years old. That will give them a couple of years to settle in.
We wish all our graduating students the best of luck. We also hope that the students who have moved onto other activities have as much fun as we had in Junior Theatre. Part of life is experiencing new opportunities and activities, so good luck and enjoy whatever you are doing.
I have been asked why I limit the class to 16 students. The simple answer is space and duty of care. We have limited stage room and 16 children all jostling for the limelight can be a challenge. Our commitment to 'duty of care' is very real and the safety and security of our students is of paramount importance.
I wish there were two Saturdays in the week (and two me's) but we have to work with what we have got. Through experience we have found that 16 (8 boys and 8 girls) fits our group perfectly. I am sorry that some children miss out and I hope that you will put your names on the waiting list.
Ipswich Little Theatre has been providing tuition classes for children interested in the performing arts for many years and is tailored to suit Primary School children. Starting age is 8 years and the graduation age is 13 years.
Regular class time is Saturday Mornings from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. The children do workshop sessions in class each week, work on their performance skills, and build confidence levels which are two very important skills to have in any walk of life.
The main intent is for the children to have fun and enjoy what they are doing. Check out our picture gallery for some great images from previous performances.
Tuition fees are $165 for the 2013 year (this includes membership fee) and we follow the school term times.
Parent help and support is always welcome - I'm sure there is something that you can assist with so please let me know if you are interested.

A Note from the Junior Theatre Director
Hi,
My name is Deirdre Lowe and I have been the Junior Theatre Director since July 2010. Hopefully it will be a long and enjoyable appointment. To introduce myself I'll give you a bit of a 'bio'.
I have been involved with Ipswich Little Theatre for a number of years now - since about 2003 I think. I was a volunteer helper with 'S' Troupe for many years and have also enjoyed being a cast member in several theatre restaurants and appearing in the series of plays 'Deckchairs'. I have had a long involvement with amateur theatre both here in Australia and my home country of Scotland. I love stagecraft, directing, acting, scriptwriting, costumes .... yup, I'm a theatre junkie I suppose!
Other hobbies are hand sewing and quilting, reading, various crafts, travelling, music, meeting interesting people .. not necessarily in that order. I am married to a great man, have 3 grown children and 7 grandchildren. I am, again, looking forward to this new year and am confident that I will continue to meet the needs of the students by making it a fun and positive time while exploring theatre and developing their skills.
In 2013 we hope to concentrate on improvisation; characterisation; theatre on the move; plus the basic stagecraft elements required for a performance. There will be a number of 'new' students in the group this year which always provides a challenge for myself and my team of helpers. However, Ann, Jacqui, Jill and I will rise to the occasion and I am sure the help and support we receive from members of the senior theatre will stand us in good stead.
Regards
Deirdre Lowe
